As close as we are to seeing a dream World Series of Yankees/Dodgers, it’s looking like close but no cigar unless the Dodgers can recover from their horrific beating at the hands of the northbet pick Philadelphia in Game 3.
If the Dodgers can’t suck it up and come back, we’ll lose out on the most high-profile, exciting World Series in decades.
Think of the storylines! We’d have…
Joe Torre versus the Yankees – The manager of the 1990s Yankee dynasty facing off against his hold disciples. Pretty cool.
The West Coast versus the East Coast – Tupac and Biggie would be proud, wouldn’t they? North America’s two biggest media centers colliding would be as good as it gets.
Steroid undertones – The two biggest baseball scandals of the year involved Alex Rodriguez and Manny Ramirez. Not only would the two supposedly reformed sluggers be under the microscope for the whole Fall Classic, they’d each be working hard for redemption. So far, both are well on their way to just that; especially A-Rod, who is tearing it up in the postseason.
It’s not that there aren’t other exciting World Series odds permutations out there; the Yanks and Phillies would be a power-on-power slugfest between Eastern cities and the battle of L.A. would be cool. But few things would top the Yanks and Dodgers.
